Today I read a good article on how to write good tech blog posts - How to write blog posts developers read.
These are my main takeaways:
- Tell them why - the intro should make it clear if the blog post is for the reader and why they should read it.
- Get to the point - don’t meander. Get to the point as quickly as you can.
- Think one degree bigger - decided who your main audience and think one circle outside of it, expand your reach a little.
- Plan the route to your blog - how will they find you - eg: Google, Hacker News, Bluesky, Reddit etc.
- Show more pictures - Add simple pictures to explain the concept. Use tools like Excalidraw or tldraw
- Accomodate skimmers - some people like to skim through the blog. Make it easy for them to do it.
Note - This is written by the same person who made TinyPilot and wrtthe video course How to hit the HN frontpage.
