How to write good tech blog posts

Today I read a good article on how to write good tech blog posts - How to write blog posts developers read.

These are my main takeaways:

  1. Tell them why - the intro should make it clear if the blog post is for the reader and why they should read it.
  2. Get to the point - don’t meander. Get to the point as quickly as you can.
  3. Think one degree bigger - decided who your main audience and think one circle outside of it, expand your reach a little.
  4. Plan the route to your blog - how will they find you - eg: Google, Hacker News, Bluesky, Reddit etc.
  5. Show more pictures - Add simple pictures to explain the concept. Use tools like Excalidraw or tldraw
  6. Accomodate skimmers - some people like to skim through the blog. Make it easy for them to do it.
